Majestic Mystery Tour

Amid all the wonderful rituals and festivities of a Seder, let’s not forget the inspiring spiritual traditions — singing and chanting the Four Questions and “Dayenu,” and of course, retelling the Exodus story with all its majesty and mystery.

This epic tale of divine power and miracles, leading to the Hebrews’ rescue from slavery, presents enduring principles that remind us how to live. My favorite is a commandment: Because we were slaves in Egypt, each of us is commanded to act with compassion towards those who are oppressed or vulnerable.

This is the message of my newest song parody, “Set Us Free,” sung to the tune of “Let It Be” by the Beatles and perfect for when we tell the Exodus story:

Now this is more than just a story

From the mist of history.

There’s a lesson here for

You and me.

The hungry and the homeless,

And the stranger and the refugee,

We must act together,

You and me.

The timeless music of the Fab Four is always a crowd-pleaser for groups of all ages. If you love to sing their classic hits, you should know that this is just the latest of several Beatles-inspired parodies on our site. Check out our song index where you can sort by artist — and then click the parody song title to get a free, downloadable, printable PDF of our lyric song sheet. You can also listen to our lovely vocal samples. (Note that as one of our newest songs, “Set Us Free” is #85 and will initially appear at the bottom of the listings.)

Channel your inner John, Paul, George, or Ringo, get your guitar and strum along (or get our instrumental recording) — and enjoy!
