Our Passover Seders traditionally include an element of wickedness, with the story of the wicked Pharaoh and our group discussions of the Wicked Child, one of the Four Children. This year, we’re bringing you a fun way to add a little more “wicked” to your Seder — song parodies drawn from the smash musical show Wicked.

Enjoy our fresh takes on the best-loved numbers from the Wicked songbook. The Hebrews have been “Loathing” their enslavement, but now they’re excitedly “Leaving” it, in a song parody inspired by the best-known part of “What Is This Feeling?” Moses imagines his encounter with Pharaoh in “The Pharaoh and I,” set to “The Wizard and I.” Glinda’s bubbly song “Popular” gives rise to “Populous” — told from Pharaoh’s perspective:

Populous!

You can’t get too populous!

Although I need lots of slaves

To build lots of graves

And finish my necropolis.

I’m gonna have to stop you

From becoming populous!

Check out our song index for free, printable song sheets of the Wicked-good songs mentioned here, numbers 81, 82, and 83, and get downloadable instrumental tracks that you can use to sing along at your Seder table. Our list of song parodies includes many other Broadway classics, along with songs from pop music, rock n roll, and other genres — something for every age and musical taste!
